EuroMillions Winner Borrowed Money for Celebration
Imagine if you won the EuroMillions prize and to celebrate the victory you had to borrow money from your friends!
Nigel Himsworth, 41 was part of a syndicate that won a lottery held on 7 October where he won “£333,167. The ticket was purchased from the Post Office and Newsagents in Dumbarton Road, Clydebank.
They guessed 5 numbers + bonus number 1: 9-21-28-30-38 and bonus numbers 1-8. Nigel was supposed to be in the clouds after winning but then the problems started. “I won the prize in the EuroMillions lottery but I couldn’t have any of the money that was already in my account!”

Bank officials froze the account so Nigel could not use any of the winning proceeds. When he went to celebrate his big win he didn’t have enough money to even buy drinks so he had to borrow money from friends. Nigel, 41, said: “I couldn’t believe it – I was over the moon. It was the first time we had bought tickets as a syndicate !
I couldn’t believe we had hit the jackpot. The money was deposited into my account for me to divvy up the cash with the guys. When the money was paid in though, it was classed as a suspicious transaction and my account was frozen.” It took 24 hours before the money was available. “I had to borrow a few bucks to go to the pub to celebrate.” The winning EuroMillions syndicate is made up of six workers from Barnsley in South Yorkshire who currently works outside Glasgow for specialist contractor Kirk Environmental.
The other syndicate members are: Adam Wright, 27, Ashley Robinson, 28, Adam Booth, 20, Michael Hunt, 31, and Darren Fisher, 42. Each syndicate member will receive £55,527.
One of the members of the syndicate bought a car, an Audi A3, even though he has no driver’s license! The vehicle cost him £5000.
